Product Description
The Smart Strip LCG4 is a 10 outlet extension cord with energy saving switching. Smart strips work by having a 'master' socket, which works as a switch for the 'slave' sockets. When the 'master' device is switched off, the Smart Strip automatically turns off all the 'slave' sockets.
The LCG4 Smart Strip also uses zero power when switched outlets are off. Unlike standard power extension cords no current is drawn when outlets are off, but still plugged in.
How It Works
Plug the 'master' device into the blue socket, and the 'slave' devices into the white sockets. When the blue socket detects a 10% shift in current it automatically turns off all of the white sockets. This 10% shift is enough to recognize when a computer or TV is entering sleep or standby mode. When the device comes back on or wakes up, the slave devices are all turned back on.
The red sockets are always-on, and are never switched off, except during a power surge.
Example use:
Computer system - when the computer is turned off other devices (such as printer, scanner, monitor) are also switched off.
Entertainment system - when the television is switch off other devices (DVD player, cable box, sound system, games machine etc) are also switched off
Fax/Modem Surge Protection
Internal phone jack splitter provides two surge protected phone jacks for both modem and fax. Features RJ45/RJ12 dual connectors for both PBX and standard phone systems, and 100% compatible with both single-line and two-line phones.

LCG3 - 1 master, 6 slave, 3 always-on, coaxial surge protection
Why Its Good
Many household devices we leave plugged in at all times, such as printers and dvd players. When no in use, this power strip will switch these devices off, reducing power usage, electricity bills and your CO2 footprint.
e.g. Laser printer at work. Turns on with your computer, stays on for 9 hours per day instead of 24. Laser printers use a significant amount of electricity, between 25-80W in standby mode. Assuming 50W, the SmartStrip would save 750W per day. Faxes (standby 10W), and photocopiers (standby 100W-200W!) could also be added.
e.g. Home entertainment system. When the TV is turned off, the DVD player, games machine and stereo system also turns off (turning off the cable box will reset the time/date, and miss any programs you wish to record). Assuming you watch TV for 4 hours a day, this could save 20 hrs * 5W (stereo) + 15W (dvd player) + 2W (games console) = 374W per day.
How To Recycle
All electronic products should be recycled at dedicated municipal recycling centers. Never throw electronics in the trash, not only does it add to land fill waste it is discarding valuable, energy-intensive materials.
