Seventh Generation 2x Laundry Concentrate Detergent is tough on dirt but gentle on the environment and your clothes. It is non-toxic, hypo-allergenic, biodegradable and free of phosphates and optical brighteners. There are a choice of scents available - free and clear, blue eucalyptus and lavender and white flower and citrus. All scents are created from natural plant essences.
Why it's good
Each bottle of Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent is half the size of a bottle of standard detergent, but still washes the same number of loads. This reduces packaging and the fuel used in transporting the detergent. The contents of the detergent are also very green. Seventh Generation Detergent is made from plant extracts - most other detergents are made from petroleum. Less energy is required in it's production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. If every house replaced just one petroleum based bottle of detergent with Seventh Generation detergent 233,000 barrels of oil would be saved per year.
Seventh Generation detergent is free from phosphates and optical brighteners. Phosphates are natural minerals aid cleaning, but cause problems once released back into the environment via household wastewater. Phosphates encourage waterway algae grow, which decreases the oxygen levels that kills animal life. Similarly optical brighteners are toxic to fish and other aquatic life, as well as causing eye and skin irritation in people.

How to recycle
The container is made from plastic, and can be recycled with your other plastic waste. The detergent is biodegradable, and so the waste water from your washing machine can be washed down the drain, or used in your household graywater system.
