EarthAid pays you to reduce energy use

EarthAid Logo EarthAid is a brand new system designed to help you monitor your energy usage and encourage you to reduce it. They provide a database of energy saving tips and users who carry these out successfully will receive points for the energy that they save.  This applies not just to electricity use, but both water and gas as well.  The service ties in with your online account for your utility providers so will track your energy use automatically.  Points can be exchanged for rewards from the partner network that EarthAid has set up.  Usefully, they also provide information on the various tax incentives that are applicable.  For example, if one of the actions you are considering is purchasing a new Energy Star qualified refrigerator they will link to the relevant tax rebates that you are entitled to.

Sign up is free, and the company makes clear that they intend to keep it that way.  The first thing that you need to do is link your energy accounts.  You can select your utility providers from a pre populated drop down menu and enter your login details.  Obviously, your utility provider will need to provide online access to your bills, but from a few trials on their system it seems that the majority of providers do offer this.  If your provider doesn’t allow this, I suggest you contact them because the sooner we can escape the black box of energy billing, the better.  If you successfully link your energy bills then your data will be fed into EarthAid and you can monitor your energy usage, similarly to Google PowerMeter.

About The PlentyWays Project

Hello and a hearty welcome to the PlentyWays site & blog.

Around a week ago, we had a soft launch of a version 1.0 of our site, but we have lots of ideas and features planned for the future which we are working hard to implement:  We will be expanding our product range drastically and a lot of work will also go into the design and additional features in due course.  However, we deliberately preferred this approach for the PlentyWays site.  We want to concentrate on building up a core group of enthusiastic and trusted users and listen to their feedback and work hard to bring them exactly what they want.  In other projects we have worked on in the past we have tried hard to figure this out in advance and put a great deal of effort in trying to get it right from day one.  Sometimes that works, sometimes not.  However, with an approach where we bring the website to our users at an early stage and can listen to exactly what they like and don’t like, it is more likely that we will eventually reach a point where we have a product that is exactly what our users want, which is indeed our goal.  It also means that we get to launch our site straight away…

So, PlentyWays is a work in progress, not the finished article.  We would love to hear any ideas you have, or any feedback at all – let us know here: http://plentyways.uservoice.com/.  You can also get in touch with us through our social media accounts:

Welcome to Plentyways.com – green energy tips, news and reviews

Welcome to PlentyWays.com

PlentyWays-Icon-SmallWhat is Plentyways.com?
The idea behind this project is that there are plenty of ways to change our planet for the better. We hope to provide tips, advice and product reviews on simple ways to improve the world around us.

5 Earths
Here in the US we consume way more resources than anywhere else in the world. If the world’s 6 billion people were to live like we do, we’d need 5 planet Earth’s to support us all! Clearly we’re going to have to make changes to our lifestyle and the way we live.
So, we are starting this blog off looking at green energy living. We’ll be looking at ways you can cut down on your CO2 footprint and make your lifestyle more sustainable – as well as tips to save you money. In the future we hope to broaden our outlook to include other ways to improve our planet.

Look out for posts over the next few days, where our team will introduce themselves.

Regards,
Sam
